Side effects and warnings

Flow Nerves side effects: what the sources report for its six ingredients

Quick answer

Flow Nerves side effects have not been studied, because no trial tested the capsule. Sources report stomach upset for several of its six ingredients, low blood sugar with alpha lipoic acid, bleeding cautions and liver injury reports for turmeric. Ask a pharmacist about your medicines, and call 911 for stroke signs, chest pain or trouble breathing.

The short answer

What are the side effects of Flow Nerves?

We found no report of side effects for Flow Nerves itself. No trial tested the capsule, and we hold no reaction data, so the list below comes from sources on single ingredients.

Those effects were seen at amounts that may differ from the capsule. The seller prints no amount for any ingredient and we hold no Supplement Facts panel, so nobody can say how close the capsule is to any of them.

Effects the sources list, by named ingredient
IngredientWhat the source lists
Magnesium glycinateNIH: high supplement doses can cause diarrhea, nausea and abdominal cramping (NIH ODS, Magnesium)
Alpha lipoic acidMSK: nausea, vomiting and low blood sugar (MSK, Alpha-lipoic acid)
Butcher's broomWe found no source listing effects
L-carnitineNIH: about 3 g a day can cause nausea, vomiting, cramps, diarrhea and a fishy body odor (NIH ODS, Carnitine)
Turmeric extractNCCIH: stomach side effects, and liver damage reported with some formulations (NCCIH, Turmeric)
Coenzyme Q10MSK: nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite and sleeplessness (MSK, Coenzyme Q10)

Safety

Is Flow Nerves safe?

We cannot call it safe, and no source we hold does. No safety study of the capsule exists, and the FDA does not approve supplements before they are sold (FDA 101 supplements).

The trials we read show why caution is fair. In NATHAN 1, 460 people with diabetic neuropathy took 600 mg of alpha lipoic acid by mouth daily for 4 years. Serious adverse events were 38.1% on the supplement and 28.0% on placebo (Ziegler 2011, NATHAN 1 oral alpha-lipoic acid). A Cochrane review of magnesium for cramps found stomach effects in 11% to 37% of people (Garrison 2020, magnesium for cramps (Cochrane)).

Those results are for other products and amounts, and no trial tested Flow Nerves. They are a reason to ask questions, not a verdict. The bottle front prints “Nerve Support*”, a star that leads to the FDA statement, and not a safety claim.

Liver

Can the turmeric in Flow Nerves harm the liver?

Turmeric supplements have liver injury reports, and LiverTox gives turmeric its top likelihood score, A. We cannot say how often this happens with the capsule.

  • Onset is typically 1 to 4 months after starting, and daily doses in the reports ranged from 100 to over 1,000 mg (LiverTox, Turmeric).
  • HLA-B*35:01 was present in over 70% of cases, against 10% to 15% of controls. Most cases resolved within 1 to 3 months of stopping; some reached liver failure, transplant or death.
  • These are case reports, not a rate. The sales page calls the turmeric a “95% curcuminoids” extract; that describes the extract, not an amount per capsule.
Signs to act on

NCCIH says to stop the turmeric supplement and call a provider for fatigue, dark urine or jaundice (NCCIH, Turmeric). Yellow skin or eyes or belly pain also need care the same day.

When to get care

Which warning signs mean you should stop and get care?

Stroke signs, chest pain, trouble breathing and swelling of the face or throat are emergencies. Call 911 first.

CDC lists sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side, with trouble speaking, seeing or walking, as stroke signs and says to call 9-1-1 right away (CDC, Stroke signs and symptoms). A supplement is never a reason to wait.

  1. Sudden numbness or weakness on one side, trouble speaking, seeing or walkingCall 911. CDC lists these as stroke signs.
  2. Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, belly pain, fatigueCan be signs of liver trouble, which LiverTox links to turmeric. Stop and get medical care the same day.
  3. Unusual bruising, nosebleeds or blood in urine or stoolPossible bleeding, especially on a blood thinner (MSK on turmeric and CoQ10). Stop and call your clinician or pharmacist.
  4. Shaky, sweaty, confused, very hungryPossible low blood sugar if you take diabetes medicine (MSK on alpha lipoic acid): treat it as your care team told you and call them.
  5. Rash, hives or swellingPossible allergy. Stop and get medical help; swelling of the face or throat or trouble breathing is an emergency.
  6. Diarrhea, nausea, stomach crampsCommon supplement effects (NIH on magnesium and carnitine). Stop and ask a clinician if they persist.

Signs from (CDC, Stroke signs and symptoms) (LiverTox, Turmeric) (MSK, Alpha-lipoic acid) (NIH ODS, Magnesium). This list is not complete. A supplement is never a reason to wait.

Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed unless your clinician says otherwise. If a sign above applies, call your clinician or pharmacist about the capsule, not about your prescriptions.

Medicines

Which medicines raise the risk of a problem?

Blood thinners, insulin and diabetes medicine, and thyroid hormone top the list, and each needs a pharmacist before any of the six ingredients.

Bleeding

MSK says people on blood thinners should not take turmeric supplements, and that coenzyme Q10 was reported to raise bleeding risk with warfarin (MSK, Turmeric) (MSK, Coenzyme Q10).

Low blood sugar

On diabetes medicine, alpha lipoic acid adds a documented risk. Shaky, sweaty, hungry or confused: treat it as your care team told you and call them.

Thyroid hormone

One 2001 trial of 50 women found 2 or 4 g a day of L-carnitine worked against their thyroid hormone (Benvenga 2001, L-carnitine and thyroid hormone). That is a reported effect at gram doses.

Magnesium can lower the absorption of some antibiotics and bone medicines (NIH ODS, Magnesium). Butcher's broom is a gap: we found no source on its interactions, so ask about blood pressure and prostate medicines. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. The medicine guide has more.

Allergies

Can Flow Nerves cause an allergic reaction?

Any supplement can, and we cannot rule it out: we hold no list of the other ingredients, such as the capsule shell or fillers not given (we hold no panel, so the other ingredients, such as the capsule shell and any fillers, are unknown).

Check your own bottle for allergen statements and ask the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 for a photo of the panel if it is missing. A rash or hives needs medical help. Swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing, is an emergency: call 911.

If it happens

What should you do if you have a reaction?

Stop the capsule, get care if a sign above applies, and report it.

  1. Stop and get care

Stop the capsule. Call your clinician, or 911 for an emergency sign.

  2. Keep the bottle

Note the date you started, the lot code and what you felt. Lot FN-26/GO-2256 is the seller's reference.

  3. Tell your pharmacist

Share every medicine and supplement you take.

  4. Report it to the FDA

The FDA explains how to report a reaction to a supplement (FDA report a problem). For an order problem, call +1 (302) 200-3480 with your order ID.

Before you order

Should you ask a clinician before ordering Flow Nerves?

Yes, if you take any medicine above, have liver, kidney or seizure conditions, or are pregnant, nursing or under 18.

New or lasting numbness, tingling or weakness needs a clinician to look for a cause first. The 2-bottle pack is listed at $79 a bottle, $158 in total (2 x $79); other prices are shown at the live checkout. See the pricing page.

FAQ

Flow Nerves side effects: common questions

Does Flow Nerves cause diarrhea or an upset stomach?

We found no report for the capsule. NIH says high magnesium supplement doses can cause diarrhea, and about 3 g a day of carnitine can too. The capsule's amounts are not printed. If stomach upset persists, ask a clinician.

Can Flow Nerves cause low blood sugar?

We found no report for the capsule, but MSK lists low blood sugar as an adverse effect of alpha lipoic acid. If you take insulin or diabetes medicine, ask a pharmacist first and never change a prescribed medicine yourself.

Can Flow Nerves cause bruising or bleeding?

We found no report for the capsule. MSK says people on warfarin or other blood thinners should not take turmeric supplements, and coenzyme Q10 was reported to raise bleeding risk with warfarin. Unusual bruising or nosebleeds need a call to your clinician.

Does Flow Nerves interact with blood pressure medicine?

We found no source on butcher's broom interactions, so we cannot say. Ask a pharmacist about blood pressure and prostate medicines before adding the capsule. Tell them it names six ingredients and prints no amounts.

How long do Flow Nerves side effects last?

No source gives a duration for the capsule. LiverTox says most turmeric liver cases resolved within 1 to 3 months of stopping. Anything that lasts or worsens, or any dark urine or yellow skin, needs a clinician.

Is Flow Nerves tested for side effects?

No. We found no trial or lab report for the capsule. The lot and CoA codes are seller references, not proof. The FDA does not approve supplements, so no agency has signed off on its effects.
