Ingredient checklist
Nerve pain supplements ingredients: a label checklist
Nerve pain supplements ingredients most often include alpha lipoic acid, a carnitine, curcumin and magnesium. Trials tested them in people with diagnosed diabetic neuropathy, at gram-scale doses, with mixed results. On any bottle, check for a Supplement Facts panel, an amount for each ingredient, and whether the studied form matches the one named.

What trials tested
What are the common nerve pain supplements ingredients, and what did trials find?
The best-studied ingredients are alpha lipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine and curcumin, with mixed results. Every trial below enrolled people with diagnosed diabetic neuropathy.
| Ingredient | Who, dose, time | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha lipoic acid | 1,242 people, about 600 to 1,800 mg a day by mouth, 10 trials (Hsieh 2023, oral alpha-lipoic acid meta) | Symptom score better; pain and nerve conduction not |
| Acetyl-L-carnitine | 907 people, 1,500 to 3,000 mg a day, 6 to 12 months (Rolim 2019, acetyl-L-carnitine neuropathy (Cochrane)) | Pain 9.16 mm lower on a 100 mm scale; very low certainty |
| Nanocurcumin | 97 people, 40 mg twice daily, 16 weeks (Mansour 2025, nanocurcumin neuropathy trial) | No significant difference |
| Magnesium | No randomized neuropathy trial found | Reviews conflict (Smithiseth 2025, magnesium and diabetic neuropathy) |
A vitamin matters differently: NIH says a B12 shortage can cause numbness and tingling in the hands and feet (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). Ask a clinician about a test before buying any nerve supplement vitamin.
Label red flags
Which label terms are red flags on a nerve supplement?
Four terms deserve a second look.
- A proprietary blend lists one total weight; nutrients with a Daily Value, such as magnesium, carry their own amount (21 CFR 101.36(c), proprietary blends)
- No amount means nobody can compare the product with a studied dose
- A different form: the carnitine trials used the acetyl form, and the neuropathy supplement acid, alpha lipoic acid, was tested at 600 to 1,800 mg a day
- "Support" wording is a structure or function claim with an FDA disclaimer, not a treatment claim (FDA structure/function claims)
Ask for the panel
How do you ask for a full Supplement Facts panel?
Ask the seller for a clear photo of the whole panel before you order. It should show the serving size, an amount for each ingredient and the other ingredients. Show it to your pharmacist; NIH says to tell every provider about every supplement (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements: What You Need to Know).

How does Flow Nerves score on this checklist?
Flow Nerves names six ingredients: magnesium glycinate, alpha lipoic acid, butcher's broom root extract, L-carnitine, turmeric extract and coenzyme Q10. It prints no amount for any, and we hold no Supplement Facts panel (see what we hold). B12 is not one of the six, and no trial tested Flow Nerves. New or lasting tingling needs a clinician.

FAQ
Flow Nerves questions people ask
What is the best ingredient for nerve pain supplements?
None is shown to be best. Alpha lipoic acid has the most trials, in diagnosed diabetic neuropathy at about 600 to 1,800 mg a day; it helped a symptom score but not pain. Persistent nerve pain needs a clinician to find the cause.
Should I take a B vitamin for nerve symptoms?
Not on your own. A vitamin B12 shortage can cause numbness and tingling, so a clinician can test your level first. NINDS also lists too much B6 as a possible cause.
Why do some labels print no amount for each ingredient?
A proprietary blend can declare one total weight with names in descending order. That leaves you unable to compare with a study, so ask the seller for the full panel.
